Welcome from the governors here at Southwold Primary & Nursery School. The Local Board of Governors has 11 members, varying from parents, members of the local community and teachers. We work as a team with the Principle for the benefit of all the pupils and staff here at Southwold. The term of office of each governor is 4 years.
We’re all volunteers and have a diverse background from education, Banking, manufacturing, I.T and HR. We act as ‘a critical friend’ – helping to guide the school to improving the standard of education for all our children. We don’t get involved in the day-to-day operation of the school, but set the criteria by which the school is managed.
We ensure that national government legislation and targets are met, the safety of everyone is paramount, and that the curriculum is delivered to benefit all children.
Governors take an active role in the school not only attending meetings but also school functions and undertaking visits to classrooms
Each school has its own Local Governing Body (LGB). The Chair of each LGB will also sit on a collective group of similar Chairs from which one representative will be elected and then co-opted onto the Executive Board; this process will be repeated every two years thus affording new Chairs the opportunity to be similarly elected.
TWHF Executive Board has clearly identified the areas of responsibility that they delegate to the LGBs. Although not in any way legally responsible and not itself accountable for the statutory functions, the LGB has an important role to play in assisting the school to operate effectively in line with the wishes of TWHF Executive Board as communicated to the LGB.
