Welcome to our year 5 palm class! I am really excited to be joining the teaching staff at Southwold School this year and am really looking forward to teaching my new group of children!
I will make every effort to meet the needs of every child in my class and endeavour to make this classroom a really enjoyable environment for the children to spend their time in. I am very pleased that I will be joined by Mrs Catling who will be assisting me this year. Swimming lessons for the class with commence on Monday 7th September at 9.30 so please can you ensure that your child brings the necessary swimming kit! PE will be taught on Wednesday afternoons and it would be helpful if PE kits were kept in school. There will be a topic based takeaway homework menu that your child will be bringing home with them, further details will be on the class newsletter. In addition to this, short homework tasks will be set via My Maths for each child on a fortnightly basis. Spellings activities will be set on a weekly basis and will be tested on a Wednesday. I aim to make homework and spellings as relevant to the maths, literacy, and the topic that we are covering as possible. Class Curriculum: In order that my class hone all the skills that they will need for future years, reading comprehension, numeracy and literacy are taught daily with art, science, and computing all taught weekly. Our topic this term will be known as ‘Peasants, Princes and Pestilence’ and covers the arrival of the Black Death in the UK in 1348 which I Know the children will really enjoy learning all about.
I would like to say how delighted I am to start this year at Southwold, and I cannot wait to get to know your children and see them achieve this year. Stand by for more information in my newsletters to follow. I look forward to meeting you all soon!
